Get-In the Dance Team
Dance Team is for dancers who want to improve their dance and performing skills and who want to participate in dance competitions. Dance Team is a year round program and attendance throughout the summer months is required. Dancers are placed or "cast" into the routines they will compete. Dance Team members must earn their place or "spot" within each routine. Ability level, performance level, technical proficiency, attendance, attitude, and dancer's age are factors considered in routine placement. Parents must be members of Byrd's Parent Support Organization (PSO). Annual dues are $10 and participation in fund-raisers is optional.
Dance Team members must attend classes three days a week. Dancers must be enrolled in classes for Tap, Ballet, and Jazz, and must also take a Technique & Conditioning class once a week. The Dance Team routines are learned and rehearsed on Saturdays. The Saturday schedule is determined after routine placement. Classes in Hip Hop and/or gymnastics are recommended but not required.
Dance Team members are required to attend one dance convention during the course of the season and are required to attend all regional (local) competitions and any national (Midwest) competitions during the summer. Dancers who do not attend one dance convention will not be allowed to participate in the dance competitions and will be off the Dance Team for the remainder of the year.
For Dance Team members, additional expenses aside from monthly tuition are $180 per competition routine. This amount covers the cost of ONE costume, any tights, embellishments, or necessary alterations, and the entry fees for TWO dance competitions. Dance Team members are required to purchase a team warm-up to wear to competitions and performances.
Our goal is to strengthen and improve our dancer's abilities and to keep the dancers motivated and excited about dancing! Attendance is very important, and as in any other sport or team program, a strong commitment is necessary to have a successful team of dancers.
